More Information: In 1939, Jean was staying with her maternal Grandparents.  Jean's surname was changed to Gilbert in 1973, I cannot find a marriage as the reason and her death record begins her name with 'Ms' which suggests she was unmarried. In some circumstances, the older family members believed it was a sin to live together (unmarried) and they would be removed from a Will if they ever did so.  If the couple could not marry, the woman could change her surname by Deed Pole and tell the family that they married whilst on holiday to solve the problem.
