More Information: Francis built Middlemeade house in 1904 employing 10 gardeners for 10 years to make them best in the Midlands. The house is now called Beaumont Hall and owned by the University of Leicester. Francis had Southmeade house built in the grounds in 1928 for his retirement. Francis was chairman and managing director of T.H. Downing and Co Ltd and later, director of Freeman, Hardy and Willis Ltd. |
